Report on Caritas Aid to Flood-Affected Families in Kg Mansiang, Manggatal on 09 January, 2026

In response to the recent floods that severely impacted families in Kg Mansiang, Manggatal, Caritas Kota Kinabalu (Caritas KK) mobilized immediate assistance to support those most affected. This initiative reflects Caritas’ ongoing commitment to uphold human dignity and provide compassionate aid in times of crisis.

Caritas KK provided essential household materials to help families recover and resume daily living. The items distributed included mattresses, pillows, gas stoves and gas cylinders. These materials were prioritized for families whose homes and belongings were most affected by the floodwaters.  About 65 families including migrants and non- Christian had been reported to be affected by the massive flood in Mansiang, Manggatal in early January, 2025.

The distribution was carried out with the active support of Manggatal and Inobong Parish Caritas, whose volunteers played a vital role in ensuring aid reached the affected households. Their contributions included assisting with the delivery and distribution of relief materials and supporting families in cleaning their flood-affected homes. 

This collaboration highlights the strength of parish-level Caritas teams in complementing diocesan efforts, ensuring aid is both timely and locally grounded.

The combined efforts of Caritas KK and Parish Inobong Caritas brought immediate relief to flood victims, restoring hope and easing the burden of recovery. Beyond material assistance, the presence of volunteers offered emotional and spiritual support, reinforcing solidarity within the community.

The aid response in Kg Mansiang, Manggatal demonstrates the importance of coordinated action between diocesan and parish Caritas teams. By working together, they not only provided essential materials but also embodied the spirit of Christian service—standing with families in their time of need.
